Verification Using a Reference Building (VURB)
Our added value
We were engaged to undertake a VURB Performance Solution to reduce the overall glazing cost of the proposed building. NatHERS rating was undertaken for the project and using this Deemed to Satisfy method, the building could obtain only 5-star (1-star short of 6-star compliance) with overall U3.0 windows. The client expected to achieve compliance for the proposed building having overall U3.0 windows and therefore, the only possible solution to do so was to have a professional team undertake a Performance Solution using VURB method.
Since the eave projection over the east and west-facing windows was long enough, window SHGC had no significant impact on the cooling demand. Therefore, under-slab insulation and slab edge insulation was the only measures to maintain the energy efficiency of the project. Internal walls adjacent to the non-habitable spaces were also insulated and together with the maximum added insulation to the external walls and roof/ceiling construction made it possible to increase the overall U-values from U2.4 to U3.0 (25% increase).
